Class Descriptions

  • Little YAP
    • LITTLE YAP Ages 4 – 5 (Must be 4yrs by May 30 maximum number of children 24)

      Meets: Monday to Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm

      The goal is FUN! The program is a half-day introduction to Youth Activities Program (YAP). The morning includes art & crafts, swimming, story time, group activities and games and lunch. LUNCH IS INCLUDED IN THIS FEE.
  • YAP Beginning & Intermediate Classes
    • MATES Ages 6 – 8

      Meets Monday to Friday from 9:30am – 3pm

      This is a beginner class for sailors who have little or no prior single-handed boating experience. This class is designed for 6-8 yr olds who have completed Kindergarten by June 2017. Knowledge of water and boat safety, boat rigging, basic sailing terminology, sail handling and steering in pairs are emphasized. The beginner class will be taught in the Optimist. There is no boat rental fee for this class.

       

      BEGINNING OPTI Ages 8-10

      Meets Monday to Friday from 9:30am – 3pm

      The goal in this class is to have the child sail independently by the end of the session. This class will build on the Mates curriculum with an emphasis on independence in rigging, skippering and boat maintenance. The class will utilize on-water and land games and other activities to incorporate new knowledge through a fun process.  Participants must be less than 5’ tall and weigh under 100lbs. Participants in this class are not required to own their own boat and may rent a boat through YCSH for a weekly fee.

       

      INTERMEDIATE OPTI Ages 9-12

      Meets Monday to Friday from 9:30am – 3pm

      The goal in this class is to have the sailor increase their on-the-water confidence by expanding their knowledge of wind, weather and upwind sailing techniques. They will be introduced to basic racing techniques, tactics and strategies, with an emphasis on having fun. Participants must be less than 5’ tall and weigh under 100lbs. Participants in this class are encouraged to own their own Optimist or may rent a boat through YCSH for a weekly fee.

       

      ADVENTURE SAILING with SUNFISH Ages 11-16

      Meets Monday to Friday 9:30a – 12pm OR  12:30pm – 3:00pm

      This is a class for those sailors who have successfully completed the Intermediate Opti class. This class is intended to teach sailors to be comfortable, safe and confident on the water in a non-competitive atmosphere. Emphasis is placed on sailing terminology, team work and boat handling. Participants in this class are not required to own their own boat and may rent a boat through YCSH for a weekly fee. This class will run both in the mornings and afternoon based on attendance.

       

      SAILING CLASS ONLY CAMP (with guests) all ages and all classes available

      Meets Monday to Friday 9:30- 12:30pm August 1st to 5th and August 8th to 12th

      New to YAP this year! We will be offering sailing only classes for all ages.  Classes will be divided to meet the needs of beginning to advanced sailors. Members are encouraged to sponsor a friend or family member to participate in the classes and foster the love of sailing to non-members. Lunch will be available after the sailing class from 12:00 to 12:30.  Sailing will take place in the mornings and a boat fee will be required for those renting boats.  Guests of the club will require a sponsor to register.

       

  • YAP Advanced Sailing Classes
    • YCSH OPTIMIST and SUNFISH RACE TEAM Ages 11-15

      Meets Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am-3pm with Thursday Races

      The Race Team is for experienced and eager Optimist and Sunfish racers who own their own boat and who have progressed past the Green Fleet. Racing tactics and strategy, racing rules, protests and correct sail trim are the focus of this class. These sailors will travel as a team and compete in selected local and regional regattas. Participants must attend 5 of the 7 local regattas. Private boat ownership is required. Parents are expected to attend periodic parent meetings, and share in responsibility for providing transportation of sailors, boats and on-site regatta assistance.

       

      LASER and C420 Ages 13-18

      Meets Monday to Friday from 11am-3pm with Thursday Races

      This class is for those who are experienced sailors. The class will work to fine tune their boat handling and racing skills and students will be encouraged to sail in local regattas. Class will be run in a ‘practice’ format with a multiplicity of drills, speed test, time trials, and practice races focusing on advanced racing techniques, kinetics, and strategy. Private boat ownership is required for travelling sailors. Race parents are expected to attend periodic parent meetings, and share in the responsibility for providing transportation of children, boats and on-site regatta assistance. This class will interact, travel with, and represent the YCSH Race Team at regattas.

       


  • Boat Use Fees
    • If you are planning on renting a club owned boat for YAP, the fee is $70/week or $280 for 4 weeks.

  • Meal Plan
    • Lunch is available for all YAP participants at a fixed cost. Lunch includes: drink, fresh seasonal fruit, entrée, and Chef’s choice of dessert. Meals for Little YAP are included in the session fee. No refunds will be allowed once YAP has finished.

      1 week session: $48.15
      4 week session: $192.60

  • Private Boat Owners Summer Back Rentals
    • If you have a private boat and would like to store it at YCSH this summer the rates are as follows:

      Optimist, Sunfish, SUP and Kayak – $180/boat

      Laser and C420 – $215/boat

      Flying Scot – $310/boat
