Yacht Club of Stone Harbor 2010 Sailing Awards Party
The Flying Scot Fleet celebrated the end of the summer season over Labor Day weekend. At a party hosted by Bill and Patty Stump, we enjoyed all the traditional ceremonies of a YCSH sailing year plus a few new ones. Trophies for the two Summer Series and the Commodore’s Regatta were handed out by Sam Thomas and Commodore John Hueser. The Ellen Corrigan Bowl for Club Champion was awarded to Linda Nicholson.
Pat McCormick and Bill Ayers were awarded the first annual “Snooki Award” (you had to see it!) for their achievement of “Most Improved” sailors this season. The big hit of the evening was the resurrection of the “Golden Yo-Yo” award which was an old Cheetah Cat tradition. By nomination and popular acclaim, this year’s Golden Yo-Yo winner was Gene Mopsik. If you see Gene at the bar, buy him a drink and get him to tell you the whole story!
Sailing Awards – 2010 Club Championship
The Ellen Corrigan Cup was awarded to Linda Nicholson and Bruce Nicholson, crew for the highest overall score in the combined YCSH racing series for 2010. Stone Harbor has consolidated its adult sailing program into the Flying Scot Class sailboats over the past five years. Our fleet has become one of the strongest and most active Flying Scot fleets in the region and we are looking forward to hosting the Greater New York District Championship here in October 2011.

Avalon Cup Race Results
On August 14 our YCSH Flying Scot sailors enjoyed a day of ocean racing off Seven Mile Island. This event was hosted by the Avalon Yacht Club. Out of the fleet of ten boats, we were represented by five from Stone Harbor. The most challenging aspect of the regatta (by far!) was getting out and back in Townsend’s Inlet. We’re all looking forward to doing it again next year.

Please fill out and mail in to the club.

Saturday racing is fun. . . and lunches at the club are delicious! We are trying to develop a list of people who are interested in crewing. There have been times when people have not been able to race because they couldn't come up with a substitute to crew. No experience is necessary. This is mainly for Saturday races. Please call Race Officer Bruce Nicholson to get your name on the sub list.
2010 Sailing Schedule
The Junior Sailing Program will begin in July, 2010 and run for six weeks. In addition to racing every Wednesday at YCSH, our youth sailors are "on the road" representing Stone Harbor at various regional and national events. Highlights include the MAYRA circuit of races. MAYRA, as our regional sailing association, schedules events at member clubs each weekend. See the Sailing Schedule for sailing events at the Club. Go to our Links page for the MAYRA schedule and for other sites posting schedules of events. Also check with Laura Owens, Waterfront Director, Mike McDermott, Head Sailing Instructor or Toria Harr, Race Coach for suggestions and updates. There are many "beginner" events available within reasonable driving distance.
For information about youth sailing classes and our Youth Activities Program, please see the YAP pages.
